Villages have always established their autonomous identities throughout history. Existing like a sovereign entity we find assurance regarding its discerning similarity with a human being. Accepting its flaws, reconstructing its sociocultural identity, finding meaning in an existential crisis, rebelling against rapid change, reflecting self-hood, and nurturing its constituent parts are some fundamental similarities that we find between a human being and a village. Though they seem different, and the former sustains the latter, they grow together making both of them more human than ever. Furthering this idea of ecological harmony and ethics, we are recreating stories of such villages which survived the rapid urban transition, and became centers of localized resilience for peace and sovereignty, making their existence fulfilling in a highly globalized world. As part of its “Village Biography” Documentary Series, an initiative led by Samadrusti Mukta Vidyalaya, it will try and showcase such stories in the future.
